System Overview

System Components

The main components of the DTrack system are

  • Tracking PC
  • Two or more tracking cameras,
  • up to 20 tracking targets.

Tracking PC

All A.R.T. systems include the Tracking-PC as the central unit, which runs the DTrack2 software to calculate 6DOF target positions and orientations. It also includes the SyncCard2, which synchronizes the cameras with each other and, if required, with external sources like stereo shutter glasses.

Tracking cameras

All A.R.T. tracking cameras are intelligent cameras, equipped with a low-noise CCD chip, an FPGA for accelerated analysis of the marker data, and an internal PC for all 2D calculation. The cameras also include an infrared flash to illuminate the tracked objects. Up to 16 cameras of all types can be combined in one system.

Targets and Markers

Tracking targets can be interaction devices like the Flystick2, Flystick3, the Fingertracking or the Measurement Tool. Non-interactive targets of many different shapes are available for stereo glasses, head mounted devices and virtually every part of the human body.

Custom targets fill the gaps where the existing standard targets are not applicable. Tailored to customer requirements, they may be rugged, water-proof, dust resistant or simply larger, smaller or different in shape. Customers can build own targets and add them to the system in a simple and fast calibration procedure, or A.R.T. can create custom targets in discussion with the end-users.

The DTrack2 software can also track single markers in 3 dimensions.
